East and Africa seem to have more interest in metaverse and web3 applications. Interest from this region is much more positive than from the West.
A recent analysis by crypto data platform CoinKickoff found that opinions on the Metaverse vary widely around the world. The study used data from 1.6 million tweets to identify countries that liked and disliked the metaverse.
Vietnam liked the concept the most, with 56.8% of tweets from Southeast Asian countries being positive. Other countries in the region also showed support for the Metaverse and her Web3, such as the Philippines and Indonesia.
East Asia is not alone in showing love for the Metaverse: Africa and Eastern Europe are generally positive, with both Nigeria and Ukraine leading the way in their respective regions.
With interest in the burgeoning metaverse and web3 in East Asia and Africa, it is clear that Western societies are not so forward-thinking.
Ireland tops the list of countries with the least positive sentiment towards web3’s idea, with 14.4% of metaverse-related tweets from Emerald Island being negative. Other Western countries that are heavily opposed to the Metaverse include Denmark, New Zealand, the United States and Canada.
Western Adoption of Web3 Goes Against Negative Sentiment
Despite negative sentiment from the general public, use cases for the Metaverse continue to grow, especially in the West.
Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia has entered the Metaverse by using 5G as a way to connect remote breweries and aircraft engineers in Australia and Germany to enhance and improve shared ideas.
A Nokia spokesperson said the industrial metaverse will take off much sooner than the consumer metaverse, but expects it to catch up by the end of the decade.
In addition, the world-famous Woodstock Music Festival uses the Metaverse to reinvent that future and preserve its legacy. Jennifer Roberts, Partner at Woodstock Ventures, sees the Metaverse as a democratizing experience, a place where people can celebrate their beliefs.
If that wasn’t enough to convince the West, NFT platform Solare recently signed a deal with the world’s biggest competition, the Premier League. This is in addition to his existing contracts with other major European leagues in Italy, Spain, France and Germany, as well as his MLS, NBA and MLB contracts in the USA.
Conclusion
Sentiment in Asia and Africa is decidedly more favorable than in Western Europe and America, so you might think that the Metaverse and Web3 are insubstantial.
Nothing is far from the truth, and recent developments demonstrate the Metaverse’s potential to grow as a tool for connecting and innovating between the West and the East.
