Nokia’s View on the Metaverse

Almost a quarter of a century ago, Nokia became the first company to manufacture mobile phones with an operating system. They continued to innovate the mobile world for a decade until his iPhone came out in 2007 and disrupted the entire smartphone market.

Nokia is back. They’re back in the smartphone businessthe upper management believes that major changes need to be made in the near future.

They’re pouring money into the Metaverse.

Advanced VR and AR capable devices are required to bring the metaverse to life. These devices offer users an immersive and much more engaging experience than traditional phone screens.

However, the prices of these tools are increasing. Meta increased the base price of the headset to $400 just a few months ago. More recently, his $1,500 Quest Pro VR was introduced.

Admittedly, these prices are just affordable for the average consumer. It makes them less attractive and, as a result, harder to sell.

And there are other obstacles that get in the way of the metaverse. Internet speed, battery life, and computing power are also issues that need to be addressed.

Nokia also believes there will be more interest in such devices that offer a more realistic and engaging experience than current phone screens.

However, for the metaverse to take off, a number of factors must be aligned between businesses and consumers. These factors include:

  • Development of 5G networks capable of supporting high-bandwidth applications.
  • Proliferation of affordable VR and AR devices.

Will Nokia’s vision come true?

Nokia’s take on the Metaverse is ambitious, but not without merit. Suppose different factors come together between businesses and consumers. If so, we may see a future where the phone is no longer the primary access point to the Internet.

Instead, we use VR and AR devices to interact with virtual worlds that are as immersive as you’ve ever experienced. However, time will tell if this vision will come true.
