Tokenized stocks have been launched on various blockchains, but this is the first to appear in Bitcoin.

Portal, a cross-chain Layer 2 DEX network, announced today that it has partnered with HighCircleX, a blockchain-based asset marketplace by High Circle Ventures.

The partnership will see the two entities tokenize the shares of the pre-IPO company on the Bitcoin blockchain. This latest development is a huge plus for portals looking to bring real-world use cases to Bitcoin.

According to a press release shared with CoinText, the tokenization of private company shares ahead of an IPO will help bring liquidity to illiquid assets, the companies said. Furthermore, it increases the usefulness of the Bitcoin blockchain.

Portal Executive Chairman Dr. Chandra Dhagilala said his company is committed to bringing more use cases to the Bitcoin blockchain. He said;

“Portal brings real-world use cases to Bitcoin. Ultimately, more financial assets will be tokenized on the Bitcoin blockchain. While not a bearer asset, making both digital asset securities and non-securities digital assets available through a simple interface to users who meet the accredited investor criteria is an important part of the Bitcoin ecosystem. It marks the beginning of merging with and mainstream finance, which will also fix the problem of liquidity fragmentation across many different exchanges and applications.”

HighCircleX said it is working to remove some of the restrictions investors face when investing in private markets. This includes money being locked for an indefinite period of time, lack of liquidity, and uncertainty about the true value of holdings. HighcircleX CEO Hemanth Golla said:

“HCX makes it easy for investors to invest in private equity offerings. It gives members instant access to fractional ownership of shares in the most popular companies. We believe the deal will unlock this market and expand it significantly.”

According to the portal, users will be able to seamlessly access tokenized securities and trade non-securities digital assets from a single wallet.

Some investors may be concerned that they are acquiring securities by trading these tokenized assets on the Portal.

However, both companies explain that HighCircleX (HCX) constitutes and manages the LLC for each investment. Investors therefore do not own shares in the underlying company directly. Instead, it owns a token that represents ownership of the LLC.
