After announcing earlier this year, Starbucks has finally begun beta testing its NFT project, Starbucks Odyssey. This Polygon-based program will serve as a web3 extension to the existing Starbucks loyalty program, but will offer users coffee-themed NFTs.
Earning Rewards with NFTs
Starbucks has rolled out a beta test to some US-based users. How it works is that customers go through a “journey” that completes a number of activities including quizzes and puzzles. Some are aimed at commerce, while others are centered around in-store purchases that customers can use to earn points.

Once a user earns around 500 points, they are awarded one of the NFTs called Journey Stamps. These stamps can be used to access 3 tiers of rewards. The bottom tier offers online experiences like espresso-making classes, while the top tier offers real-world perks like trips to Starbucks Coffee His Farm in Costa Rica.
Since opening the program to beta testing, Starbucks says it has received far more participants than expected. Hopefully we will see the same success when this program is fully opened.
